Thermal Physics is a chapter of the Technical Physics, the Thermal Physics scope embracing mathematical modeling and experimental investigation of the physical processes proceeding in parallel. Among them may be mentioned the thermal, hydrodynamic, diffusion, optical and electromagnetic processes. Those problems are to be solved practically in all areas of the science and technology: power engineering, optical and electronic instrument-making, physical chemistry and solid state physics, cryogenics and high temperature processes, biology, medicine and food industry.
Presently, the chair prepares engineers and researchers on two basic directions:
- Computer and Instrumental Thermal Physics and Energy Physics;
- Energy and Ecological Monitoring.
The first direction concerns the mathematical modeling of various energy physical processes and the studies of the thermal and mass exchange phenomena, developments of the technologies for the energy/resources saving and related instruments.
The second one concerns the study of interaction between techno sphere and biosphere, particularly fatal consequences of that, as well as methods and means of its prevention and elimination.
Specific features of the students training at the chair are the fundamental character of education and wide application of the computer techniques. The students carry out the scientific researches in the Chair's Laboratory oriented on the perspective directions in the science and technology.
The chair also provides postgraduate study on two specialties: «Instruments and Methods for the Thermal Parameters Measurement» and «Thermal Physics and Molecular Physics».
The teaching staff of the chair consists of ten teachers, all of them have scientific degrees and ranks, including three Doctors of Sciences and Professors.
Graduates of the chair work at the enterprises of Russia and abroad, many of them are the leading experts in Thermal Physics, holding the jobs of the university chair and other institution heads.
