ITMO Cotutelle PhD Scheme

A Cotutelle agreement is an agreement between the University ITMO and any foreign university or other tertiary education institution leading to the award of a doctoral degree from both institutions.

A candidate who satisfies requirements for admission to the PhD will receive the award from both ITMO and the partner institution. Under such an agreement the award of the PhD is recognized on the transcript as under a Cotutelle agreement between ITMO and the partner higher education institution.

  • The prospective student must submit the appropriate application for PhD candidature at least three months prior to the anticipated enrolment date in order to ensure that the student is eligible for admission, including meeting language requirements.
  • At least two months prior to the anticipated enrolment date, the student's proposed ITMO supervisor must complete and lodge the Cotutelle Proposal Form at the Graduate Research School . The proposal must outline how the research will be managed across institutions to ensure a timely completion, and include agreed financial arrangements, mechanisms to monitor student progress, intellectual property between institutions, ethics if appropriate, and thesis examination and graduation arrangements, in accordance with the relevant higher degree research policies and guidelines.
The proposed supervisor should ensure that they have read the ITMO Cotutelle PhD Degrees Policy and sample form available below prior to completing the proposal form.

Please Note:

Submission of an application for a Cotutelle Agreement does not guarantee that a student will be accepted for enrolment in a Cotutelle PhD at the University ITMO.
